Into Maillard!
My recption at Maillard Middle was phenomenal! There were three other student teachers from SFU starting their 405 practicums at the same time and the school could not have been more accomodating for us. Before I even got into the school I had been speaking with my SA (school associate mentor teacher) and my Vice Principal about what to expect. They made sure I had a desk, a chair, and space for my things before I got there. The students were friendly and welcoming. They were curious about who I was. The staff all knew about us and were always starting conversations when we were too shy. Also, the principal and vice principal spoke with all of the student teachers right away about observations. I feel priviledged because I know that this did not happen in many schools. If we needed something we felt like it was okay to ask, and that made the practicum go very smooth. I can't say enough good things about the staff and students at Maillard Middle School.
Side note: Proof that my SA is a true Star Wars fan. Check out the picture of our class.
