The hiring process was nerve-racking and the interview process was difficult, but I did it!!
I owe a lot to my references, who made sure to push hard for me to get an interview. I am SO excited to be working for SD43! It is truly a dream district and it was the best Christmas present I could have gotten in December! Woohoo! A few other student teachers got hired from my student teacher module so I have new colleagues to commiserate with! Life couldn't be better!
This is a decription of the start of my practicum up until where I am now. I hope you can get a sense of my growth as a teacher. Please start from the first post at the bottom!

Professional Development in 405
During my long practicum there were two Pro-D days. I also did a couple workshops after school. Pro-D workshops are great because they teach you how to be a better educator. I love professional development workshops because there are new ideas about education generated every day. Here are the workshops I attended during the long practicum:
1) Association for Middle Level Educators (AMLE) conference. November 2012,
Portland, Oregon.
3)Bullying It Starts With YOU! October 2012, Terry Fox High School
Professional
Development attended in EDUC 405:
- Formative Assessment
- Active
Classrooms
- Student
Engagement
2)Science in Action Workshop (project based learning). October 2012,
Maillard Middle School
3)Bullying It Starts With YOU! October 2012, Terry Fox High School
4)Provincial Pro-D Day (Specialist Day): BCSSTA conference on Rights and Responsibilities: Thinking and
Acting Locally and Globally
- Unions
- Homelessness
-Romeo Daillaire (Keynote)

Last Day of PDP!!!
Today was our last day of our year of PDP!! Tomorrow we will be having a party as the LifeWork module and saying good luck to our new colleagues! I wish I had a picture to go along with this post! I'll have to try and get one or two at the party tomorrow.
Yesterday and today we were all at the SFU Surrey campus learning about special education and aboriginal education. Did you know that "aboriginal" is just a term made up by the government? Many "aboriginal" people prefer to be called "indigenous". I'll have to remember that for my teaching practice!
Anyway, its been a great year! I would say the most difficult year of my life up until this point! But totally worth it! I can't wait to have a classroom of my own! Good luck teaching friends!!
